Pilot injured when small plane crashes near Rochester airport

A pilot was injured when a small plane crashed late Sunday night near the Rochester International Airport.

A witness reported the single-engine plane crashed at about 10:15 p.m. on private property along County Road 16 Southwest, a short distance from the airport.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office said the witness found the pilot — the only person aboard — and transported them to where first responders could provide medical care. The pilot was able to walk on their own, and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Further details on the circumstances of the crash were not immediately available. The sheriff’s office said it contacted the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration to assist with the investigation.
