The Minnesota Latino Alliance, a coalition of 13 Latino-led organizations, hosted a news conference on the first day of the legislative session asking lawmakers for state policy changes and funding to recover from the immigration crackdown. “Among the alliance’s policy priorities is the reintroduction of the North STAR Act, which would prohibit state and local governments from collaborating or sharing data with federal immigration enforcement authorities,” according to Sahan Journal.

In other session news, a bill backed by more than two dozen GOP lawmakers would make protesting in front of someone’s place of residence a gross misdemeanor. Legal repercussions could also include restraining orders, Fox 9 reports.

Eagan is on the way to becoming the first Minnesota city to successfully pause the construction of new data centers, reports the Minnesota Star Tribune. “Eagan spokesperson Sara Horwath said in an email that the moratorium would apply to new or expanded facilities and not to previously approved projects — and said that the city has no pending applications for data centers or cryptocurrency mining facilities. The goal of the ordinance, she said, would be to make sure Eagan has clear standards and a transparent process.“

False spring, indeed. At least up in northern Minnesota. “A major winter storm is about to deliver high winds and heavy snow to the north country,” reports MPR News. North Shore residents can expect to see 1-2 feet of snow by Thursday.
