St. Paul police are investigating the disappearance of dozens of Lime scooters in recent weeks.
The green-and-white electric scooters — each with a GPS tracker — can be found all over St. Paul and Minneapolis.
St. Paul police said Lime reported that more than 100 of its scooters have gone missing since early September, in the area of the Wabasha Street bridge over the Mississippi River.
A man has been charged with one count of felony damage to property for allegedly throwing two scooters into the river from that bridge. David John Kugler, 39, was arrested on Oct. 1. The criminal complaint said Kugler was caught on video throwing two scooters off the bridge that afternoon.
Police are investigating whether he may be involved in the other scooter disappearances. The criminal complaint did not elaborate on a possible motive.
Each Lime scooter is valued at $1,365.
In a statement, a Lime spokesperson said the company has “taken steps to prevent vandalism of our bikes, and we continue to work with local authorities to hold offenders to account.”
