A 57-year-old man was killed in Brooklyn Monday evening after his bag reportedly became trapped in closing subway doors, dragging him beneath the train.

After a 911 call, Yaw Boahene was found “unconscious and unresponsive” on the tracks of a northbound A train at the Utica Avenue station in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood shortly after 6 p.m., according to the New York Police Department.

Responding paramedics pronounced Boahene dead, and an investigation has been launched into the cause of his death.

Boahene, of Brooklyn, was exiting a train at around 6 p.m. when his shopping bag got stuck in the doors, The New York Times reported.

Incidents involving commuters being caught and dragged by subway trains are exceedingly rare, but they do happen.

In October 2022, Joseph Ancona, 20, was killed in the Columbus Circle station when his bag was caught in a door, dragging him onto the tracks before he was fatally struck by the train, FOX 5 New York reported at the time.

Months earlier, 37-year-old Marcus Bryant was at a station in Brooklyn, where he got caught between a Q train and the platform. He was killed after falling onto the tracks.

In 2019, Vicente Alatorre, 39, died after he was dragged into a tunnel by a train at Grand Central Station.

Authorities initially believed Alatorre’s clothing or a bag had become caught in the train doors, but later said that was not the case, The Times reported.
